I chose an essay contest that has to do with diversity and also deals with having a multi-cultural background or heritage. The reason I chose this contest is because I come from an extremely diverse cultural background and practice a completely different religion from most people. Most people have never even heard of my religion, it is called Zoroastrianism. We live in a diverse, multi-cultural melting pot where people of different ethnic backgrounds, race and color share their thoughts and customs with each other. In my opinion, learning about a person’s religion widens one’s horizon, makes one more tolerant and accepting of different cultures and most importantly increases knowledge which in turn can bring about a sense of unity and equality. In the words of Malcolm Forbes, “Diversity is the art of thinking together independently.

ReplyDeleteInternational Essay Contest for Young People
Theme:
"The Power of Culture to Create a Better Future" Every part of the world has its own culture. Culture includes the arts, traditions and customs of a country or region, as well as the wisdom, values, lifestyles and trends of the people living there. In order to build a peaceful world, we need to acknowledge and respect each other's cultures. What aspects of the culture in your country or region do you take pride in? How can youth make the most of them to create a better future?
Essays must be 700 words or less in English, French, Spanish or German; or 1600 characters or less in Japanese, typed or printed.
http://www.goipeace.or.jp/english/activities/programs/1301.html
For this essay contest, it calls for one to talk about their culture from the county and how one takes pride in it, so for me this was a perfect choice. My family not only has enormous amounts of pride for the country that we live in now but also in our roots from Germany and Italy. Before my time, my family moved from Europe to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which to this day has impacted the pride of my family immensely. When my family decided to move down to Florida, the hard-nosed blue-collar attitude from Philadelphia and the love of family and food from Germany and Italy have been with me every step of the way in my life. Pride in where you are from and where you are now are very important parts of life and everyone should embrace their origins because that makes us who we are today.
When asked, “How can youth make the most of them to create a better future?” my response is that the youth are our future and there are infinite possibilities for them to make a better future for the world. You can predict how the future will be but we will never actually be sure about our predictions until it actually happens, so this allows our youth to do whatever we feel fit to make the world a better and more peaceful place to live in.
Each culture is different when it comes to traditions, food, sports, etc., that make them unique but if our youth can just put aside all of their differences and come together, we could make the world a significantly better and more peaceful place to live. Just because our ancestors didn’t get along doesn’t mean that we have to dislike each other as well, we are all independent to choose who we like and don’t like. The future is in our hands and it is our duty and responsibility to make the world a better and more peaceful place.
2013 International Essay Competition on taking responsibility for the future of our planet
ReplyDeletePrompt: Who is responsible… are we ready to take responsibility for the future of our planet?
URL: http://naijawriterscoach.com/2013-international-essay-competition-on-taking-responsibility-for-the-future-of-our-planet/
I chose this essay contest because it had to deal with the future. I was really drawn to this contest specifically because I thought it was funny that it was asking young adults who they thought are responsible for the future. The examples they give are organized religions, businesses and etc. But I truly think that the future is in the hands of the young adults. I also chose this essay contest because there does not go one day that I don’t think about the future. I’m always thinking about what kind of condition will the world be in, what I am going to have to live with. Will I have a job? All these things are tied to how we are getting to the future we want; and who and what do we need to do to get there. Basically if we know who is responsible for the future, we know where to focus our time, money, and energy. So we can direct and influence the future to be the utopia that we all wish for. In the end I chose this topic because the future is extremely important to me, I have worked hard and hope to one day enjoy what the world has to offer; but I can’t do that if we don’t know how to get there and don’t take responsibility for what we have already done.
Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest
ReplyDeleteAtlas Shrugged contains both businessmen who are heroes, such as Hank Rearden and Dagny Taggart, and businessmen who are villains, such as Orren Boyle and James Taggart. What are the differences between these types of businessmen? Is the story a celebration of business? How does this issue relate to the wider themes in the novel?
http://essaycontest.aynrandnovels.com/AtlasShrugged.aspx?theme=blue
Atlas Shrugged is a book that starts off really good then ends just completely awful. The author, Ayn Rand, puts forth the foundations for her philosophy, Objectivism, in her magnum opus novel. And I'm doing an essay on it. In all honesty I used to really like the book but not so much anymore. I have a pretty firm grasp on Objectivism, so I feel like I could analyze and synthesize some good knowledge in my essay. If you haven't read Atlas Shrugged give this quick summary a read (and give yourself a pat on the back too). Atlas Shrugged is about mega super business moguls with extremely conservative views going on strike because the government has been invaded by damned weak minded foolish cowardly socialist businessmen. So after all the moguls go on strike the world falls completely apart and the moguls don't help at all because it isn't their job to help all those starving dying incompetent socialists. Eventually all the incompetent socialists die and the moguls can finally quit striking and just be super rich and conservative for the rest of their lives. And that outline of that plot represents Ayn Rand's philosophy perfectly.
For this paper I will be writing about the opposing forces in the novel; the mega super business moguls vs the socialist businessmen. Obviously I will put the mega super businessmen in high favor because that is what the Ayn Rand Institute is looking for. I chose this essay contest because it was really the only one I could find that I related to and since I know the book really well I could make it a grade A paper with a good amount of thought.
Tenth Annual Essay Contest
ReplyDeleteSo many of your fellow students, and the adults you know, feel like they are 'not good enough.' in Hey U.G.L.Y.'s I AM ENOUGH Essay Contest
http://heyugly.org/Contest%20Essay.php
I chose this essay contest because people often question what should be done to make the world a better place. There are innumerable ways we can go about solving all of our problems and dealing with all of the corruption we face today, but I think that we should first pay attention to our worst enemy, which a lot of times is our own selves. We are so concerned with changing the world that we never stop to look at what’s actually holding us back.
The people who succeed are the ones that have a positive attitude about them and KNOW that they are good enough. They don’t let anyone bring them down, not a bully, a teacher, a boss, a relative, and especially not themselves. This is something that everyone should learn to do no matter how difficult it may be. I have dealt with situations where I haven’t felt good about myself, and as time has passed, I have learned that those feelings will never help me to persevere.
People should learn to value who they are and know what they are worth. There will be numerous times in life that someone will try to hurt them, bring them down, shoot down their ideas, and make them feel like they are not worth it, but all these things are not true. People should take these experiences and utilize them to make there selves stronger, determined, and indomitable.
Often times there are extreme conditions where a person feels worthless because of what other people think. They have to deal with bullies and people who mentally abuse them and it may often lead to unfortunate events. Even though these bullies are some of their enemies, they are still making themselves their own worst enemy because they are permitting themselves to believe all the nonsense that people put in their heads. Everyone has the power to keep these obstacles from stopping them.
I was always a negative person throughout my life. I was insecure, scared to state my own opinions, and I still am at times. When High School came, I went through some experiences that made me realize the huge mistake I was making. Once I started to be positive and have more confidence within myself, my whole world changed. I am finally proud of who I am and of all the talents and qualities that I possess.
Each person is born with certain talents and abilities that they should embrace. It doesn’t matter if they are different or if they feel out of place. Being different should be a marvelous thing! Why should everyone be identical? There is no such thing as “normal”. These abilities are what make people shine. That is why everyone should bring them out and utilize them to make the world a greater place. Like Gandhi said, “Be the change that you want to see in the world”. If people keep being ashamed of themselves, they will never be able to reach their full potential and will continue to impede themselves from becoming the person they were meant to be.
This contest is open to all poets whether published or not, and regardless of experience. Current and former employees of MoontownCafe.com or their relatives are not eligible. You may post as many poems as you wish to this site.
ReplyDeleteI chose a poetry contest as my choice of writing contest. I really enjoy expressing myself through poetry. I think that poetry lets writers use words to truly express their feelings. I specifically chose this contest because the there are no guidelines. I can write as much as I want and I can also choose the topic that I want. I don't like having a specific way that I have to write because I like having the freedom to choose what I, as an individual, like writing about.
Growing up I always loved reading poetry and hearing words that rhymed. I think it gives an excitement to the paper. Reading poetry is very fun to me.

DeleteThe Sonic Geography Writing Contest:
ReplyDeleteChoose a location. Any location. You have 500 words to describe how sound defines this place. Listen to your local coffee shop, grocery store, or commute to work. Choose anywhere—urban or rural, indoors or outside, busy and loud or mysteriously quiet—and describe what you hear. How does sound influence the people around? How does it toy with your expectations? How does it create the experience?
https://www.musicworks.ca/contest
I choose this prompt because it is one of the most interesting essays prompts I've read. There is so much that I could write about and because of this, it caught my attention. Sound has a great affect on a place by creating the place's atmosphere, whether it's calm or frenzied. Sound in a place also has an affect on how I remember a place. Most importantly, sound helps create the experience which will be fun to write about. Overall, this prompt caught my eye as soon as I read it. I showed my roommates the prompt and they loved it just as much as I did. For once, I am excited to write an essay and can't wait to start writing.
The Holocaust Remembrance Project is a writing contest about the Holocaust. Participants should study the holocaust and then, in an essay of no more than 1,200 words: (a) analyze why it is so vital that the remembrance, history and lessons of the Holocaust be passed to a new generation; and (b) suggest what they, as students, can do to combat and prevent prejudice, discrimination and violence in our world today.
ReplyDeletehttp://scholarshipmentor.com/holocaust-remembrance-project-essay-contest
I chose this topic because it means a great deal to me. I am Jewish and I've learned a lot about the Holocaust as I was in Hebrew class and while I was getting Bar Mitzvahd in middle school. Everyone in the world knows that the Holocaust is probably the worst tragedy to ever happen. It's very unfortunate that this had to happen mostly to people of my religion and beliefs and that's exactly why I'm writing about it. We need to make sure that something of this caliber like never happens again. And also to prevent discrimination and violence in the world.

ReplyDeleteWhat’s the bravest thing you’ve ever done?
Maybe, in the course of your life, you’ve had an Erin Brockovich moment: say, the time you stood up to a bully in second grade, or the day you ended a long-standing friendship that had turned toxic. Or maybe your acts of courage have been less dramatic but no less powerful: moving to a new country. Daring to fall in love a second time around. Leaving a settled career to embark on a risky new venture. Whatever your story, share it with us.
I felt like this essay contest would be interesting to write because there have been so many moment in my life where I have had to make difficult decisions. Some may see it had brave and other as normal. I feel like this could be a way for me to figure all my events out and separate the normal one from the brave ones. In this essay, this will help become a better writer because I will be able to collect all my thought and analyze it into one complete essay on a moment in my life.
Being brave doesn’t necessarily have to deal with physical actions. It also could deal with emotional and psychological decisions that have made me become a better person and taught me lessons.
Women in Service to our Communities Scholarship
ReplyDelete"Please briefly describe an important economic, environmental, or social issue facing communities today. For the issue you have chosen, and based on your service experience and school studies, please describe how an individual can help address this issue."

The essay contest I chose to apply to is specifically for women who are active in their community. This essay appealed to me because I can easily relate to the given prompt. I was raised in a military home so helping people can naturally to me as I developed in life. I often took part in community service activities in school and at my mother and father’s navy base. My interaction with people in multiple communities has allowed me to recognize the affects of national and local issues on that community. Personally, I have seen and heard of a single individual making a situation better for a large community. And because of my military background and my exposure to community service, I believe this essay would be a simple one to write. My passion for contributing to the happiness of others would allow me to create an outstanding essay and hopefully win the contest.

I decided to choose this essay contest because it really helps spread awareness to an important topic that faces the world today. The major topic that is up for discussion concerns the state of our environment and surrounding and with this essay I feel like I can express new ideas and ways to improve our lifestyle which can affect nature. I like the fact that not only does this essay help improve my writing abilities it also helps broaden my own thoughts toward our environment by making me do research on the topic and help emphasize the need to preserve wildlife, and the importance that wildlife plays on our everyday life that people might be unaware of.

Essay Contest Name: Washington State Association for Justice's American Justice Essay Scholarship
ReplyDeleteEssay Prompt: The student must write an essay that thoroughly addresses the following topic: “What does the 2nd Amendment mean for modern America?”
URL: http://www.scholarships.com/financial-aid/college-scholarships/scholarships-by-type/essay-scholarships/washington-state-association-for-justices-american-justice-essay-scholarship/
The second amendment—the right to bear arms— is a particularly sensitive area of conversation for many people; it will undoubtedly breed controversial and very passionate one-sided answers whenever discussed. This is the primary reason for my choosing of this article, in that I too hold a fairly strong opinion on the matter; I also do not mind that my thoughts on the subject are heard, in fact, I would rather people hear my side of the argument so I could possibly persuade them to think adversely on the matter.
I would also like to mention that my vast background of handling and firing weapons plays a key role in my decision to choose this particular contest. As a child I always shot guns in one form or another, whether it was shooting clays and “trap shooting” or just going to the range with my father to shoot his .38 snub nose revolver. Although this might not be a typically “welcomed” hobby for younger people, I found it to be extremely enjoyable and was with out a doubt a huge part of my life up to this day. Unfortunately there are many anti-gun activists out there that would like to take away my god given right to bear arms, which I find to be sickening and unreasonable. Through this essay contest I will further explain my reasoning’s for the standpoint which I hold.

ReplyDeleteWriters digest popular fiction awards thriller suspense essay competition
This contest calls writers to be creative in writing a fictional thriller/suspense essay. This topic draws out a large amount of interest in me. From a young age I have been very imaginative and creative. I would often come up with little imaginary games or write imaginary stories. Doing such really kept me entertained and let my mind wander somewhat. It was a good way for me to escape from the world. I got much praise from family members and teachers for the fictional stories that I would create. This essay topic is going to allow me to tap back into that imagination and deliver a great thriller. Thrillers interest me in particular because they have a lot of suspense and I believe it will allow me to create a great essay, that will keep the readers on edge. My interest in this topic will make this essay less of a chore for me and much more enjoyable to write.

ReplyDeleteIdentify the difference between a terrorist/insurgent and a nation without a proclamation or declaration of war that is in reality at war.
I figured I would do this essay because the topic sounded like an interesting thing to investigate. For the better part of my life we have been embroiled in a conflict with a faceless aggressor, so investigating and subsequently learning more about the subject would be rewarding in a way
